Geological Properties
Lapis Lazuli or Lapis is a deep-blue metamorphic rock used as a semi-precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense color. The source of the pigment ultramarine, it is not a mineral but a rock colored by lazurite. In addition to the sodalite minerals in lapis lazuli, small amounts of white calcite and pyrite crystals that resemble gold dust within the stone are usually present. Lapis lazuli has a hardness at between 5 and 6 on the Mohs scale (Mohs).
Metaphysical & Healing Properties
Lapis Lazuli is a powerful crystal for activating the higher mind and enhancing intellectual ability. It stimulates the desire for knowledge, truth, and understanding, and aids the process of learning. It is excellent for enhancing memory. Keeping Lazuli close to your skin allows you to tap into its healing energies throughout the day.
Cares
Warm, soapy water is the safest way to clean lapis lazuli. It’s best to test a small, inconspicuous area first, because some dye treatments are not stable.
